August 23, 2023 | Story by Naomi Wilkins | Commander, Navy Installations Command
Just when you think Summer is coming to an end, Commander, Navy Installations Command (CNIC) HQ Navy Morale, Welfare and Recreation (MWR) Community Recreation and Liberty-Single Sailor Program announce their Navy MWR Esports Summer 2023 Series, featuring Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II. Starting Aug 25, 2023, the five-tournament series will see competitors strive for victory in a 4v4 team format. The first and second-place winners will receive great prizes and exclusive, commemorative apparel, along with bragging rights. Whether you’re an experienced gamer or just here for the comradery, Sailors and other Navy MWR eligible patrons are welcome to participate in this exciting competition.
“Each year the tournament gets bigger and better, and this year is no exception,” said Brooke Haley, CNIC’s Fleet and Family Readiness Liberty and Community Recreation Program Manager.
The upcoming Call of Duty tournaments will also serve as the qualifying stage for the All-Navy Esports Team, who will be competing in the upcoming 2023 Armed Forces Championship. This process will identify the four athletes who will represent the Navy in the championship event, scheduled for Oct 2023. The All-Navy Sports program offers Sailors an opportunity to showcase their athletic skills to compete above the intramural level, in team or individual sports, a chance to represent the Navy at higher-level athletic competitions.
Since its inception in 2020, the Navy MWR Esports program has been a staple in Community Recreation and Liberty’s initiatives to provide entertainment and recreation opportunities through competitive sports. The Navy MWR Esports program is open to all eligible MWR patrons from all Services. Navy MWR Esports tournaments have already amassed almost 4,000 participants and 10.7 million live views.
Competitors can sign up now on the Navy MWR Esports page at www.navymwr.org/esports. Registration is capped at 128 participants per tournament, with priority given to active-duty Sailors, and will close on the day of the competition.
