What is the free Wi-Fi Service?

Navy MWR is providing free Wi-Fi service in government-owned and operated, permanent party Unaccompanied Housing buildings (barracks) in your area.

What is the difference between the free/subsidized Wi-Fi service and the non-subsidized Wi-Fi service?

The free/subsidized service is filtered exactly as patron access Wi-Fi is filtered currently in all MWR facilities for the following categories:

  • Criminal skills and hacking
  • Illegal download sites
  • Mature content (including self-harm)
  • Gambling
  • Nudity
  • Pornography/sex
When is the free service available?

Naval Support Activity (NSA) Bahrain (including ISA Airbase), Naval Support Facility (NSF) Redzikowo, Naval Base Guam, Naval Station Guantanamo Bay, and Naval Support Facility (NSF) Deveselu will begin receiving service on 17 November 2025, followed by most CONUS barracks on 2 December 2025. Other OCONUS locations will receive Wi-Fi as contracts are secured with service providers.

What do I have to do to use the free service?

If you currently have a subscription and reside in one of the buildings offering the free service, your service will automatically be converted to the free Wi-Fi plan closest to your current Wi-Fi plan. With the change to your subscription, you may have to re-authenticate on all devices currently utilizing Wi-Fi. After the initial account conversion, if your account was changed to a free or subsidized plan, you will have the opportunity to elect a different plan regardless of if you choose filtered or unfiltered access. All CONUS and some OCONUS locations offer the ability to change plans directly online with the service provider. Some OCONUS locations may be required to visit their local service office to make changes.

How do I access the free Wi-Fi service?

The free Wi-Fi service can be accessed by selecting the service provider SSID from your Wi-Fi menu on your device. Some OCONUS locations will require account creation in person with the local service office prior to accessing the service provider SSID. For CONUS and some OCONUS locations, if you are not directed to the portal page, go to your browser and attempt to access a web page, which should automatically bring up the portal page. If you experience any issues, please contact the service provider help desk.

If I don’t have a subscription, can I still use the free Wi-Fi service?

Yes! If you do not have a subscription, you will be prompted to create an account and select the free service, or choose from a plan at a discounted rate. Some OCONUS locations will have to create an account with their local service office before accessing the free and subsidized Wi-Fi.

What if I already have a paid subscription, will my plan change?

Yes, when your location is transitioned to the new free and subsidized Wi-Fi your subscription will be automatically transitions to the plan closest to your current subscription rate and download/upload speed on the filtered plan. You are free to change your plan at any time. CONUS and some OCONUS locations can make changes directly on the service provider website. Some OCONUS locations will have to make changes in person at their local service office.

Can I get higher speeds with the free service?

Yes! You can upgrade to higher speeds at a subsidized rate.

What higher speeds can I get at the subsidized rate?

Speeds and rates will vary by service provider. Once contracts are finalized this website will be updated to inform subscribers of new pricing and speed options.

What if I start using the free/subsidized service and move to another location that does not offer it?

If you move to another location that does not offer the free/subsidized service, you will be prompted to select from the available service plans at your new location. You must cancel your current subscription if you have purchased any upgrades prior to your move. You will continue to be charged for any subscriptions that are not canceled prior to moving. All accounts that remain inactive after 90 days will be deactivated. Sailors may reactivate their accounts at any time.

What if someone visits my building and wants to use the free Wi-Fi?

For CONUS and some OCONUS locations, anyone who already has an account with the service provide can log on their account to utilize the free Wi-Fi. Some OCONUS locations will require an account to be created for the specific location.

What if I don’t want to use the filtered service?

For CONUS and some OCONUS locations, you can opt out of using the filtered service at any time by logging in your account and changing your plan to a non-subsidized plan. Some OCONUS locations will have to visit their local service office to make changes to your plan.

What non-subsidized plans are available?

Non-subsidized plans will be available for purchase. Rates will vary by location.

What if I have Wi-Fi service through a different provider?

You may keep your existing provider, if you choose, or you can cancel your subscription to take advantage of the free/subsidized service. Please check with your current provider for termination policies.
