NAS Pensacola Fans Meet Little Big Town at Operation MWR

June 18, 2024 | Story by Megan Trexler | Commander, Navy Installations Command

WASHINGTON – Meeting one of the biggest country bands in person is a rare opportunity, but fans at Naval Air Station (NAS) Pensacola experienced just that on May 18, when they had the chance to meet the Grammy-winning band Little Big Town. The meet and greet was a hit among attendees as the band treated fans to photos and autographs during the Operation MWR event.

Despite facing challenges with inclement weather conditions and the subsequent cancellation of the concert, Morale, Welfare and Recreation (MWR) and the band were able to make the best of the situation. Guests traveled from around the tri-state area for a chance to meet their favorite band. Taylor and Kayla, who drove from Fort Novosel, Ala., were extremely excited for the opportunity as they described meeting Little Big Town. “They were just so warm and welcoming. We got to meet them and leave with something signed by the band! They are down to earth and have big hearts.”

Capt. Terrence Shashaty, Commanding Officer of NAS Pensacola, discussed the significance of Operation MWR and its relevance to the base under his command, “The name of the event itself is what we want to focus on - Operation MWR We’ve Got Your Six. For aviation, means that the Wingman has always got your back, and that’s the big thing we want to take away from this whole event.”

Shareeta Smith, MWR Marketing Director at NAS Pensacola, says her team used various marketing strategies to promote the concert across the installation, including digital signs, videos, social media and more in support of Operation MWR. “The mission is to give back to our active duty and their families, and we are here to boost morale.”

Navy MWR's Operation MWR will host 65+ free events at Navy installations worldwide from May to June 2024.
